Ride the Divide

Forced out of Colombia due to the Covid- 19 Pandemic and looking for a way to more intimately explore the commonalities and follow the threads of connections within our often bipartisan and tattered community of a country, I discovered a challenge that fulfilled the requirements – The Great Divide Mountain Biking Route. The Divide is a 2,700 mile long route from Canada to Mexico officially mapped by the Adventure Cycling Association in 1997 and considered by many to be the birthplace of bikepacking. Riding the Great Divide solo and self-supported from Canada to Mexico in 2020, I encountered countless obstacles which required a hard pivot and people in various communities experiencing the same. Exploring resiliency through my ride and their struggles. Reflecting on both, I’ve been asked repeatedly to share the journey. In my own, albeit incredibly abridged preparation, I discovered a lack of intimacy in the thousands of Divide chronicles of others, so I decided to share my own – as raw and real as can be.

My divide trip was, is, an exploration into how I live my life, Certain details ascertained into oblivion, Others left to discover, An experiment into what was, is possible,
Soul-searingly-uplifting cotton ball clouds, weight of the earth, dark day, brain fog sticky inescapable mud,
Washboard that rivals the bouncy house bouncing at a 10 year old’s party years ago,
Tropical water blue skies,
Blinding-burning-warming-illuminating sun

While sacrificing some stylistic aesthetic, I’ve shared the photos mostly in chronological order each day building throughout the trip with the hope that through my revisit to the memories you can get an idea of what the Divide entails. I hope you enjoy, and even more so, I hope you reach out if there’s any insight I offer that an elaboration would serve you well. Thanks for being here. ♥️
