I have felt uncomfortable in this space since the second I entered it, and my only fight is that I’m a woman. The cycling world is white, cis, male dominated and inundated with racism and white fragility and devoid of representation. Many want to keep it that way. It is not a safe space for any minority, and even the “good guys” are not that great. They rarely are more than performative and largely harmful themselves. Marzhel Salvador Pinto Mojarro is a step above a great guy, and his message is urgent, necessary, and needs to be the message of us all. The industry and everyone in it need to respond to what he puts forward with immediate action, and we need to be real about this problem and this culture. Black Lives Matter. Bikes are political and we need to make them available as a continued force for revolutionary change and a safe space, and more, nothing less. .
Please listen closely. Please share. Please act. Thank you Marzhel and the truly bright lights willing to speak and doing work in this space.
